The Jacana story

Jacana Media is an independent publisher based in Johannesburg, South Africa. We publish texts in a wide range of genres, including natural history and business, and place special emphasis on literary fiction and non-fiction from South Africa, Africa and the rest of the world.

Jacana sponsors the European Union Literary Award, and has a strong relationship with the Caine Prize for African Literature, having published many of the prize-winners over the last several years. (Click here for selected Caine Prize texts.)

Jacana was the Sunday Independent‘s publisher of the year in 2006.
