About Just for Kicks!

2nd annual, Just For Kicks!

This year, South Africa’s Cartooning maestros have swept their criticisms under the rug to blow their vuvuzelas and sing “Shosholoza”!

Following hard on the heels of 2009’s very successful Don’t Joke!, this year’s anthology of South Africa’s best political cartoons is lighter, more optimistic, but equally hilarious. Last year’s biggest newsmaker, Jacob Zuma, is back with more cringe-worthy revelations, while the antics of Motor-mouth Malema continue unabated. Corruption scandals, counterfeit currency, tenderpreneurs, lifestyle audits, dodgy judges, paternity scandals, earthquakes, eco-disasters and all the usual gaffes and catastrophes – momentarily sideline by eight weeks of deafening soccer madness – reappear at year’s
end to bring the decade to a thunderous conclusion.

About the Editors

Andy Mason is head of the Comic Art Unit at the Centre for Comic, Illustrative and Book Arts (CCIBA) at Stellenbosch University. He also works freelance and produces several strips under the nom de plume N.D. Mazin.

John Curtis is the curator of an online showcase of cartoons at AfriCartoons.com and often provides cartoon ideas to other cartoonists, including Jerm, Dr Jack and Zapiro. He runs a Cape Town-based design agency.
