Zapiro Draws a Cartoon to Ask: Who’s Lying in State?
The political cartoonist Zapiro, author of My Big Fat Gupta Wedding, drew a cartoon depicting the late former president lying in state during the three days when the public was allowed to view his body at the Union Buildings in Pretoria last week.
It shows Nelson Mandela in his coffin draped in the South African flag with a crowd staring at him somberly. The headline reads “Mandela is lying in state” with a smaller thought bubble at the bottom which says “…and so, I see, is Zuma!”. Zapiro is commenting on the allegations that Zuma is not being honest with the people of South Africa.
