The Goddess Mojo Bootcamp: A book that will show you how to allow real, fulfilling love to find you

This book is about MOJO. Your mojo is your attractor factor. The magnetism you use to attract potential romantic partners.

- Kagiso Msimango, author of The Goddess Bootcamp

The Goddess Mojo BootcampPresenting The Goddess Mojo Bootcamp: The book for women who want to attract a man, or two, or three …

The Goddess Mojo Bootcamp is for women who want a man for a reason, a season, a lifetime, or one to match each of her handbags … it has zero moral pontifications. It won’t warn you against sleeping with a man on the first date. There are no 90-day rules in this book.

It’s for women who want authentic relationships, not ones who are interested in learning how to manipulate men in order to get a ring on their finger. It’s for women who desire happy, healthy relationships in their lives, not women who are looking to a relationship to have a happy, healthy life.

The Goddess Mojo Bootcamp is written primarily for women experiencing one of two challenges:

  • 1. “Help, no one is hitting on me!”

You’d be amazed how often this happens. Women who’ve lost their mojo do not get hit on. It is usually turned off as a response to heartbreak. They need to learn how to turn their mojo back on, to move on.

  • 2. “Aaargh, I hate the kind of men I attract!”

Perhaps one always attracts married men, stingy men, cheats, men with Peter Pan syndrome, commitment-phobes … these women’s mojo is on, but tuned into the wrong frequency. They need to learn how to get their mojo to work for, instead of against them.

Central to this empowering book is loving yourself and feeling good about yourself. It teaches you how to attract a healthy relationship, through falling in love with yourself and your life.

Relationships (not just romantic relationships) are important to women. In fact, they are central to our fulfilment. The majority of dating books are, ironically, dens of self-hatred and manipulation. They either teach you how to manipulate men into doing what you want them to do, or how to behave in order to appear as “wife” material.

This book does the opposite.

It teaches you how to let go of your masks, so you can attract people who are capable of loving the real you. It helps identify and release subconscious patterns that keep you from attracting the love you desire and the right man for you.

About the author

Kagiso Msimango is passionate about the personal development of women. Since starting The Goddess Academy in 2006 she has been a liberator and cheerleader of women, supporting and inspiring them to dare to pursue their heart’s truest desires.

Upfront, entertaining and sassy: The Dot Spot: Adventures in Love and Sex by Dorothy Black

The Dot SpotPresenting The Dot Spot: Adventures in Love and Sex – South Africa’s first, fun and frank “how-to” guide on untangling the mysteries of sex, love and relationships:

Written in Dot’s upfront, entertaining and sassy style, the book uncovers everything you’ve ever wanted to know about dating and relationships, from kink to sexual self-empowerment.

“‘Writing about sex’ was more than just banging on about genitals, lost loves, vibrators and the Kama Sutra. Instead, it became an exploration into one of the most potent, honest aspects of our humanity – our sexual selves and the relationships we create. It was like being given VIP entrance to the sweaty, intimate back room hidden behind the polite interactions people hand each other.”

About the author

A Sophisticated Celebration for the Launch of BlackBird Books and its First Title, The Refined Player by Stevel Marc

Stevel Marc

The Refined PlayerA capacity crowd gathered at Exclusive Books Rosebank last week for the launch of Jacana Media’s newest imprint, BlackBird Books. The numbers were a good sign that this was a venture long anticipated.

Thabiso MahlapeInitiated by publisher Thabiso Mahlape, BlackBird Books aims to raise the voices of new and existing black writers. “I never wanted to be asked again why only black authors. That should not even be a question. It is what is is,” Mahlape said at the launch.

“Together we are going to launch into the literary arena with a set of interesting voices. We’re going to take them by storm,” she said.

Jacana MD Bridget Impey said that when when Mahlape joined Jacana as a marketing intern in 2010, she looked like nothing but trouble. “As trouble is an attribute that ranks highly at Jacana, we hired her on the spot. An imprint is a wonderful thing when the marriage of a publisher’s ideas and beliefs and the writer’s creative works become more than the sum of its parts. It is to this marriage that we give our blessings tonight.”

The first book to smash the champagne on the deck of BlackBird Books is Stevel Marc’s The Refined Player: Sex, Lies and Dates. In it, Jamaican-born Marc, an entrepreneur, international model and actor, presents a compilation of reflections on dating in the modern world.
Stevel Mark and Kojo Baffoe
The book’s launch brought him in conversation with entrepreneur and writer Kojo Baffoe, who asked how Marc’s book was different to a manual on “how to be a player”? Marc responded: “To be refined means that you’ve gone through a process. Even if you get some players who come out of reading the book, they are going to be real refined. They will be very honest about who and where they are. This is not about creating players, but about creating better men, better women, better husbands and better wives”.

Baffoe wanted to know how the book would help dispel perceptions that a man’s value is determined by his sexual prowess. “As men, we are responsible for a lot of bad men. At home, he’s a good man who cooks and cleans but when he’s with his friends, he is like ‘Nah, I don’t do any of that’. You have to be in a process of continuously unravelling who you are as a man,” Marc said.

Upcoming publications from BlackBird Books include Nakhane Touré’s Piggy Boy’s Blues and Panashe Chigumadzi’s Sweet Medicine.

BlackBird Books Presents its First Publication: Stevel Marc’s The Refined Player: Sex, Lies and Dates

The Refined PlayerNew Jacana Media imprint BlackBird Books is proud to present its first publication: The Refined Player: Sex, Lies and Dates by Stevel Marc.

After being confronted with a realisation that he suffered from intimacy issues, Stevel Marc was led to a place of reflection and self-revelation. Marc realised that our lives are moving in a new space and relationships are even more complicated. Based on his own intimate experiences with women, as well as drawing on the experiences of the 800 men and women whom he interviewed, Marc offers us his understanding of dating in our modern world.

I realised I could either continue in fear, allowing and living the façade of loving ‘playerhood’ and ignore the pain I felt, or evolve and be the man I knew I was deep within: a good man. It was time to become the refined player … a refined player means you’re no longer a player. You’re always the perfect gentleman or lady – the dream man or woman who screams marriage material, even though you may not be ready to get married.” – Stevel Marc

The Refined Player: Sex, Lies and Dates presents a kaleidoscope of thoughtful reflections – of a man, his partners, friends and even strangers, whose experiences of love, loss and longing offer intimate insights for the gentleman who wants to be and do more for his woman. It not only helps men to understand their role in relationships, but it also inspires women to be empowered and to expect and demand better from their men. Marc shows us that it is possible to have those difficult conversations about money, sex, honesty and trust. He offers insight into transitioning from singlehood into a place of meaningful interactions.

This book will not give you all the answers you seek. It will, however, make you a better man or woman. It will get you closer to the happiness you long for. It promises a life that’s more rewarding, caring, loving and nurturing to ourselves and our partners. Change is necessary when striving to become better. Finding the men and women we look to find begins with us. Live your life in a manner that mirrors the partner you seek.” – Stevel Marc

About the book

Ask any woman whether a man has ever hurt her, and the answer in all probability will be a resounding Yes. Yet despite women’s abuse being one of the most topical and written about subjects today, there are still many myths and preconceptions surrounding the syndrome.

Did you know:

• Most abused women don’t heed the signs because they don’t know what they are.
• Most people think abuse is purely physical.
• Unless a woman has been raped or assaulted she cannot report it.
• Despite it seeming logical by the concerned outsider, an abused woman usually cannot just up and leave. The responsibility of children, rent and the effects of disempowerment that come with systematic abuse need to be overcome.
• There is no way to evaluate the cost of abuse to the economy unless it results in litigation such as a restraining orders and most don’t. When Loving Him Hurts is a comprehensive selfhelp manual that will appeal to any woman who has ever been psychologically, emotionally, financially or physically hurt by a man. Through penetrating case studies, work sheets and psychological insights,

When Loving Him Hurts will help the reader identify and accept her situation of abuse and subsequently empower her to learn the art of the sacred No, reclaiming self-esteem and healing through life-changing, creative expression.

It is an invaluable tool, a unique guide written specifically for wounded women, by two women who are all too familiar with the silent and invisible stain of abuse that marks the world we live in.

About the authors

Sue Hickey is a well-known and respected Johannesburg-based therapist who has been in private practice for over 25 years. She has worked with and achieved astounding results in hundreds of women’s lives who, desperately unhappy in their relationships due to varying degrees of abuse, sought help from her. Due to the overwhelming demand, Hickey started a support group for women in abusive relationships and worked with coauthor Philippa Sklaar as a patient and survivor of abuse. The lessons learnt from the women in group therapy over the years give depth and context to the content in When Loving Him Hurts.

Philippa Sklaar has been in three abusive marriages. In When Loving Him Hurts, she bravely describes the pain and shame she experienced in her relationships as well as her long road to healing. “Sue invited me to assist her in the writing of this book to share my experiences. Like the recovering alcoholic who is prepared to disclose her story, I believe that my healing comes through sharing mine.”
